Hi, I'm Amy!
Around 15 years ago when I was a new gardener, I felt like I could never do enough to live up to the garden vision in my head.
After a few years of gardening like my hair was on fire, however, I knew there had to be a better way to work smarter not harder, without constantly feeling like I wasn’t doing enough.
That’s when the idea of my garden planning system was born. It began as an effort to reach my own gardening goals with more joy and less chaos. This personal experiment is a system that I’ve continued to use to this day, at both my former and current home gardens.
The thing I love most about my online system? It allows me to use technology to easily plan and track my garden, year over year.
Later, I published my award-winning book, The Suburban Micro-Farm: Modern Solutions for Busy People (2016—black and white; 2018—full color), with the goal of helping home gardeners and micro-farmers grow food in ways that were manageable, satisfying, and ecologically friendly.
I decided to include four of the tools from my personal garden planning system with the book because they truly help me make every moment in the garden count, and I wanted to pass that experience on to my readers.
But here’s the best news: In honor of The Suburban Micro-Farm’s 5th Anniversary, I decided to give my planning system an upgrade and make it more widely available. And so, the Complete Garden Planning System comes to life! I’m excited to help you find your garden planning mojo.
As always, I continue to enjoy helping people discover the joy of growing food and connecting with their land at TenthAcreFarm.com.

You’ll also save time by using technology to calculate seedstarting and planting dates, as well as to organize and save records over time.
I think you’ll notice the value in the seven-step process and six planning tools. However, if you decide this system isn’t for you, simply reach out for a full refund within 7 days of your purchase date.
I'm confident you'll find these beginner-friendly tools easy to use and customize for your needs with the help of the step-by-step instructions and examples, as well as the ability to message me if you get stuck.
Unlike Excel, Google Sheets is free to use, which makes it accessible to more people. Additionally, the complex formulas behind the done-for-you calculations are Google-specific and will not work with Excel. If you're accustomed to using Microsoft programs, you'll have no problem using these tools with the help of the step-by-step instructions.
While all of these tools can be either printed or used digitally, a couple of them are formulated to create unique-to-you dates and auto-calculations. I've included instructions for how to first render your customized planting information before printing, if desired.
The bonus materials provided with my book include four of the tools in this product, which have been upgraded for you! The Complete Garden Planning System includes a seven-step process delivered through an online portal, as well as additional worksheets and support options.
The tools are beginner-friendly and easy to use. However, I've been using them in my own gardens for over ten years and believe that they can improve your success and processes at any stage.
Contact me and I'll get back to you ASAP.
I'm available through direct messaging to help with technical issues. In addition, I offer private garden coaching for an additional fee. You'll find more details inside the online portal.
Many people are turned off by the idea of using organizational tools in the garden.
At first glance, planning kind of takes away the magic.
I get it. The last thing I want is to be dealing with my laptop and spreadsheets and checklists in my happy place!
Here’s the thing, though: As my garden expanded over the years, my expectations also expanded. I didn’t want my garden to be stressful or all business, but I wanted those big harvests, too.
You see where I’m going with this? There’s a lot to keep track of in a big garden.
I realized that spending a few minutes with the planning tools in the pre-season helped me to keep all the complexity out of my head—and by that I mean dates for sowing, planting, harvesting, weeding, watering, etc., as well as how to prioritize it all and how to fit it into my schedule. 🤯
I simply let go, and let the garden tools do the mental calculations and remembering. It's freeing!
By outsourcing the right-brain work to the planning tools, all I have to do is show up during my scheduled garden time, which is blocked out on the calendar just like "real life" work, my niece’s cross country meet, or a doctor’s appointment! It is an unhurried priority.
During this coveted garden time, I start by meandering through, tinkering around, and sometimes even sitting down with a cold beverage. This connection and groundedness is so important to remembering my ‘why’!
When I get to work, though, I just do the next thing on the checklist/calendar to keep the garden humming along. I don’t have to worry about which task is the most important or that I didn’t do enough.
This is my version of a “Big Little Garden”, one that’s productive but also manageable and healing. Does this sound like your idea of a good garden?
